How Grapes Can Treat Inflammation
We have all experienced some kind of inflammatory symptom in our body. Inflammation often occurs when cells inside the body are damaged. Then you will see swelling and redness. The area of inflammation will be extremely painful to the person and they will lose most of their function in that location. Most people in this situation would think to use an icepack or some other traditional remedy. Not too many people realize that eating grapes can actually help reduce or prevent inflammation inside the body. However, the consumption of grapes will help clean your body of free radicals and will promote a healthy anti-inflammatory body.
People suffering from inflammation usually have poorer diets, eating bad foods, like potato chips and cookies. Teenagers especially can benefit from enjoying more grapes since acne is little more than a kind of inflammation. Good luck getting kids to eat more fruits and vegetables, though.
What makes grapes healthy to begin with is the fact that they are natural. If you eat processed foods from the supermarket, you are going to get a lot of trans fat and preservatives. These things are added to foods to improve shelf life. Unfortunately, these foods are unhealthy for your cardiovascular system and they contain many inflammatory properties. Grapes, on the other hand, are very nutritious and contain plenty of vitamins, such as C, B1, B2, B6 and A. Grapes that are darker in color have more nutrients in them promoting anti-inflammation. One kind of grape in particular, muscadine grapes, are rich in an antioxidant called polyphenol. This antioxidant has a positive effect on the metabolic system of your body. This is what helps reduce the risk of getting serious inflammatory problems, such as asthma, gout or rheumatism.
Now, some people would have a tough time finding fresh grapes or even changing their diets to much. That is okay because there are other ways to take advantage of the many benefits of grapes. For example, occassionally drinking red wine can be a fun and excellent way to get the antioxidants of grapes inside of you. After all, red wine is made of squashed grapes. You can also drink grape juice, which consists of nothing but grape juice extract from real grapes. Finally, many supplements, found at your local drug store, offer all the same benefits of the grape in much higher dosages. This way you can prevent having to radically change your diet to benefit from this amazing fruit.
